GDC’s Most Boring Video Game Being Played Now

UPDATE: It’s not too late to donate. Students for Cambodian Schools is accepting donations online here. Don’t forgot you can watch them here!

Hi all,

At the start of spring quarter, the Students for Cambodian Schools came to us with a single request: Make the world’s most boring video game… for charity! Students for Cambodian Schools has been determined to raise $13,000 to build and support a school in for poor children in rural Cambodia. In order to raise the money needed, they are holding a fundraiser: the more money donated, the longer they will be forced to play our boring video game. More information about the fundraiser came be found on their website.

In a little over two months, the Game Developers Club was able to not only meet, but exceed their expectations for boredom. Through the dedication and hard work of Michael Lauridsen, Blake Curry and Chris Monti, our club has created Old Man Ranting. The scenario: your grandfather is ranting and you are falling fast asleep. The goal: stay awake by moving the mouse or else you will fall asleep and your grandfather will yell at you!

The Students for Cambodian are currently playing Old Man Ranting right NOW! People have donated enough money for them to play the game for over 40 hours in a row! That means they will be play Old Man Ranting all night tonight, all day Friday, and at least a portion of the day on Saturday without stopping. So come down to the lobby at Gracie’s dining hall and watch them play/suffer through our boring game. Or better yet, follow them on twitter or watch them live 24/7 via streaming webcam!

Finally, I just want to thank everyone who has supported the Game Developers Club in the past year. It been a great pleasure working with everyone this year. I wish you all the best in the years to come!

RIT GDC Rapid Game Dev Day - Saturday, Dec. 13

Hey everyone,

This Saturday, the RIT Game Development club is hosting another Rapid Game Development Day! It runs from 12PM to 11PM in room 70-2000, the Game Design and Development Lab. The goal is to form small teams and, within 11 hours, design and create a working game prototype. The Fall Rapid Game Dev Day was a great success, and some of the prototypes created went on to become full fledged GDC projects. So, come along and bring a friend and we’ll make some games! Students of all majors are welcome and no game design experience is required. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

Check out the event on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=48479249459.

Also, the CSC is hosting a Charity Dodgeball Tournament this Saturday from 12PM to 3PM to help support Rochester’s Open Door Mission. “Bring friends and 5 canned goods or 1 toy.” More info is available at http://csc.masterpi.org/index.php?id=48.

Finally, the next general meeting for the GDC will take place on the first Sunday after Winter Break. There will be no general meeting Week 3.
